Solution:
1) Close the print head cover, and turn off the printer. While pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press the Power button. (Do not release the buttons. The LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.)
2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (Do not release the Power button.)
1) Pull out the cartridge and look on the right side of the it. You will see a small hole that has a glass like window in side (round window).
2) Turn off MFC-7420
3) Cover the hole on cartridge with a duct or a piece of paper. Basically block.
4) Replace the cartride back in the printer and turn on the printer.
5) The message should be gone and you should be able to use the copier functionality.

There is some LOOSE piece of material in the paper path which causes the jam. Because it is loose it can move and appear gone but it is still in there. Sooner or later it will jam again!

2. Toward the top right of the bay into which the waste toner cartridge fits, there is a recess. On the left side of the recess, there is a black rocker switch that is activated when the waste toner cartridge is inserted.
3. LEAVE THIS SWITCH ALONE. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO DISABLE OR REMOVE THE SWITCH. It is there for a purpose --
Pressing the stop/Maintenance button indicates that the cyan, yellow and black cartridges are at fault. If I replace them (or just reseat them) I get the same error again, but the peculiar thing is the sequence if I replace them one at a time, as follows;
1. Disconnect the power cable
2. Connect it while holding down the power button
3. With the power button still down, press twice the "Cancel/Stop" red button
4. Release the power button
5. The printes turns into a kind of factory mode...(wait for about 10 seconds, utils it says "Idle")
6. Press the ">" (next to the "OK"
